SC Cleared Service Designer | Public Sector Transformation | £550/day | Remote (UK only)

RMG Digital is partnering with an established technology consultancy on a complex digital transformation programme within UK government.

We're looking for an experienced, SC Cleared Service Designer who can get to grips with complex services, uncover opportunities for improvement and help shape what better service delivery looks like.

The engagement will initially centre around discovery, with a strong likelihood of progressing into further service design phases, taking the insights and opportunities identified through discovery and translating them into future-state service models, validated concepts and actionable plans for delivery.

What you'll be doing

  • Exploring existing services to understand user needs, operational challenges and opportunities to improve the end-to-end experience.
  • Mapping complex service ecosystems, identifying pain points, dependencies and opportunities across digital and non-digital touchpoints.
  • Facilitating workshops and engaging with stakeholders to build a shared understanding of current services and future possibilities.
  • Developing service blueprints, journey maps and other design artefacts to communicate findings and inform decisions.
  • Working alongside user researchers, product managers, business analysts and designers to shape evidence-led recommendations.
  • Helping define what comes next, from prioritising opportunities through to shaping future-state services and potential alpha activity.
  • Ensuring service design approaches align with GDS standards and public sector delivery expectations.

What we're looking for

  • Existing & active SC Clearance (please note: this is non-negotiable).
  • Strong experience delivering service design within UK central government or wider public sector environments.
  • A solid understanding of discovery, alpha and the wider GDS delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience navigating complex services involving multiple stakeholders, systems and channels.
  • Confidence facilitating workshops, challenging assumptions and communicating design thinking to senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to turn ambiguous problems and research findings into clear, practical recommendations.
  • Previous experience in defence, justice or national security environments would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
