We are currently seeking a skilled, dedicated Automatic Door Engineer to take full ownership of installing, servicing, and maintaining advanced automated entry systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial, retail, and public sector sites throughout Greater London.
In this field-based role, you will be the front-line expert responsible for keeping critical access points operational, secure, and compliant with national safety standards. From troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical faults to carrying out routine preventive maintenance, your technical expertise will directly impact building security and accessibility across the capital.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Commissioning: Fit, set up, and commission a wide range of automatic sliding, swinging, revolving, and telescopic door systems in full accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Maintenance & Servicing: Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules across commercial and public sites to maximize equipment lifespan and minimize unexpected downtime.
- Fault Diagnosis & Repair: Rapidly diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults on site, carrying out effective, high-quality repairs on the first visit whenever possible.
- Compliance & Safety Audits: Conduct thorough safety risk assessments and inspect all door installations to ensure full compliance with BS EN 16005 and BS 7036 standards.
- Customer Representation: Serve as a professional brand ambassador on site, providing clear technical advice, detailed service reports, and outstanding customer service to facility managers and clients.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven Field Experience: A strong track record working as a Field Service Engineer or Technician specifically within the automatic door or powered pedestrian door industry.
- Industry Certification: BS EN 16005 (or BS 7036) certification is essential for demonstrating your knowledge of safety in powered pedestrian doors.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong hands-on mechanical skills paired with a solid understanding of low-voltage electrical systems, wiring diagrams, control panels, and sensor technologies.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Excellent analytical skills to troubleshoot complex electronic and electro-mechanical faults efficiently under tight timescales.
- Driving Licence: A full, clean UK driving licence to cover field service routes across London and surrounding areas.
Nice-to-Have
- Electrical Accreditation: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
- Multi-Product Knowledge: Familiarity with major automatic door manufacturers (e.g., Dormakaba, Geze, Besam/Assa Abloy, Record).
- Access Control Experience: Working knowledge of integrated access control systems, intercoms, and security hardware.
