Role Overview
We are partnering with a high-growth, AI-native LegalTech startup that is revolutionising the way legal and IP teams function globally. Backed by elite technical founders, the company is scaling rapidly and seeking a commercially-minded Legal Counsel to join their New York headquarters. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will take full ownership of commercial and legal operations, working directly with Sales, Product, and Senior Leadership in both New York and London.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate complex B2B SaaS agreements, acting as a strategic partner to the Sales team to accelerate revenue growth.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Lead security, privacy, and data protection reviews (DPAs, ISAs) and advise on regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, primarily focusing on US law.
- Product Partnership: Provide practical, business-focused legal guidance to Product teams to ensure innovation aligns with legal frameworks in the evolving AI landscape.
- Operational Scaling: Identify and mitigate legal risks while building the foundations for a scalable legal function within a fast-moving startup environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and qualification to practice as in-house counsel in New York.
- 5+ years of experience within a top-tier law firm or a high-growth SaaS organisation.
- Extensive experience in negotiating commercial technology contracts and SaaS agreements.
- Exceptional legal judgement with the ability to operate autonomously in an office-based environment.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Direct exposure to AI, emerging technology, or highly regulated tech sectors.
- USPTO admission and experience with intellectual property matters.
- Previous experience in a product-facing legal role.
