
Senior Risk Manager, Workers' Compensation Programs Austin or Houston, Texas | $120,000–$140,000 + 12% bonus | Onsite 4 days (Thursday WFH)
Our client is a tech-enabled staffing platform backed by one of the largest employment brands in the world. They are scaling rapidly across the US and are now building out their in-house Workers' Compensation function from the ground up.
This is an employer-side, in-house Risk role. You will be the client, not the vendor. You will own the Workers' Compensation programme as a buyer of TPA and carrier services, accountable for Total Cost of Risk and reporting to the Head of Risk and Compliance.
The remit
You will build the Workers' Compensation claims framework from scratch — risk appetite, claims handling instructions, TPA governance, reserving discipline, and a claims management system selection. Alongside this, you will provide strategic oversight to an established and successful EH&S department, with one direct report initially and the mandate to expand the Risk team as the programme matures.
The role spans multiple Guaranteed Cost jurisdictions and a California High Deductible / Loss Sensitive programme, which sits at the centre of the financial exposure. You will partner with Finance, Legal, and Operations on TCOR reporting, build dashboards that integrate EH&S incident data with claims financials, and direct strategy on complex and litigated files.
Who we are looking for
This role is only suitable for candidates who have owned a Workers' Compensation programme from inside a corporate Risk function. Applicants whose experience is primarily on the carrier, TPA, or brokerage side will not be considered.

The role is based in either Austin (The Domain) or Houston (near The Galleria). Onsite four days a week with Thursdays from home. Dallas is not an option. Travel is approximately 25%, including some international.
