Family Lawyer - Toronto, Hybrid.
Position Summary
Our downtown Toronto full-service firm of 130 lawyers is seeking a talented and dedicated Family Lawyer with 5 to 10 years of experience to join our growing Family Law Group. The ideal candidate will have significant experience handling matters involving support, property, and parenting issues, and will be comfortable managing files independently as well as assisting senior counsel on complex matters. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced family law practitioner to join a collegial, client-focused, and full-service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a wide range of family law files involving support, property division, and parenting matters from start to finish.
- Draft, review, and negotiate domestic contracts, including separation agreements, marriage contracts, and cohabitation agreements.
- Prepare and argue motions, conferences, and trials before the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice.
- Conduct and supervise legal research and prepare pleadings, financial statements, affidavits, and factums.
- Assist senior counsel on complex and high-net-worth family law matters.
- Advise clients on all aspects of family law, including custody, access, spousal and child support, and equalization of property.
- Engage in mediation, arbitration, and negotiation to achieve practical resolutions for clients.
- Maintain meticulous file management, docketing, and compliance with court procedures and timelines.
- Develop and foster strong client relationships through responsive and compassionate service.
Qualifications & Skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- 5–10 years of post-call experience practicing exclusively or primarily in Family Law.
- Experience with complex family law matters involving support, property, and parenting issues.
- Superior drafting, analytical, and research skills.
- Strong advocacy abilities and familiarity with court processes and procedures.
- Excellent communication and client management skills with a focus on professionalism and empathy.
- Ability to manage files independently and assist senior counsel on multifaceted cases.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality work.
- Strong academic background and sound professional judgment.
