Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Analyst specialising in Payments to join our team at our Toronto office. This role serves as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams, ensuring that technical solutions align perfectly with strategic business objectives. You will support complex business processes and work across multiple projects to enhance our payment systems and operational resiliency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with key stakeholders across business functions to align technology solutions with business strategies and translate requirements into technical specifications for developers.
  • Payments Expertise: Support high-value and low-value payment flows, including AFT/EFT, ACSS, and SWIFT (MT/MX messaging), ensuring adherence to ISO 20022 standards.
  • Process Optimisation: Map complex business processes, manage clearing, settlement, and reconciliation, and handle exceptions such as returns, recalls, and reversals.
  • Compliance & Governance: Perform impact assessments and critical service mapping to ensure regulatory compliance, including AML monitoring and incident playbook development.
  • Project Delivery: Lead requirements gathering sessions and produce high-quality documentation (BRD/FRD/SRS) while coordinating delivery across diverse project teams.

Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:

• 8+ years as a business analyst or related experience, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and documentation (BRD/FRD/SRS)

• 3+ years strong payments domain expertise: AFT/EFT (low-value payments), ACSS, SWIFT (MT/MX messaging), ISO 20022

• 2+ years hands-on experience in low-value payment flows: clearing, settlement, reconciliation, and exception handling (returns, recalls, reversals) • Experience with regulatory compliance & operational resiliency: impact assessments, critical service mapping, incident playbooks, governance frameworks

• Strong background in AML, including payment monitoring and compliance reporting

• Demonstrated delivery/project coordination across business and technology stakeholders

Nice-to-Haves

• Agile delivery experience (Scrum/Kanban, JIRA, Confluence, user stories) • Experience with UAT, test case creation, and defect triaging

• Experience supporting KPI reporting / senior leadership presentations • Experience with Canadian payments ecosystem

• Relevant certifications (SAFe, Scrum, CBAP, ISO 20022)

• Previous banking experience

Education & Certificates:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, business analytics, or a related field.
