Role Overview

Vula is seeking a visionary Head of Engineering to lead our technical evolution as we build Africa's AI-powered open finance infrastructure. Having grown to a team of 20 and serving 10 of the continent's leading financial institutions, we are at a critical inflection point. You will be the technical conductor responsible for transitioning our platform from bespoke, sales-led implementations to a scalable, self-serve Product-Led Growth (PLG) model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Orchestration: Coordinate sprints across four engineering teams, driving a culture of high performance, shipping velocity, and operational excellence.
  • Strategic Architecture: Redesign and evolve our technical systems to support self-serve scalability while maintaining enterprise-grade security and capabilities.
  • Product Translation: Bridge the gap between product vision and technical execution by translating high-level strategy into clean, executable technical stories.
  • Quality & Process Innovation: Implement rigorous QA standards and obsessively refine engineering workflows, leveraging AI to amplify output and maintain code integrity.
  • Data Security: Take ownership of protecting sensitive financial data, ensuring our architecture evolves ahead of our rapid growth.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience shipping production-grade software, ideally within fintech or complex domains.
  • Proven experience navigating the transition from bespoke enterprise solutions to Product-Led Growth platforms.
  • Deep technical proficiency in our current stack: TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Prisma, and PostgreSQL.
  • Based in Africa with a deep connection to the regional markets we serve.
  • AI-native mindset, with a track record of using AI tools to enhance engineering workflows.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience in development finance or investment capital technology.
  • Previous experience in a high-growth startup environment (scaling from 20 to 100+ employees).
  • Advanced knowledge of automated onboarding systems for B2B financial platforms.
