Role Overview

We are seeking a Strategic Buyer to join our Procurement team, specifically focusing on the Telecommunications and Carrier Services category. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that optimise spend, drive innovation, and ensure high levels of service from our global carrier partners. This role requires a blend of commercial acumen, technical understanding of network infrastructure, and exceptional negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Category Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies for international carrier services, leased lines, and network infrastructure to drive cost efficiencies.
  • Vendor Management: Lead end-to-end procurement processes, including RFI/RFPs, supplier selection, and performance monitoring of key telco partners.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate complex Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure favourable commercial terms and risk mitigation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Network Engineering and Finance teams to align procurement activities with technical roadmaps and budgetary constraints.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct regular benchmarking and market research to stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies in the wholesale telco space.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Strategic Buyer or Category Manager within the Telecommunications or Carrier industry.
  • Strong understanding of wholesale network services (e.g., IP Transit, Dark Fibre, MPLS).
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering significant cost savings through strategic negotiation.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage complex data sets and financial models.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience with international roaming agreements or subsea cable procurement.
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar enterprise-level eSourcing tools.
