We are working with a fast-growing tech innovator to find a Fullstack Developer to help build and develop internal applications, with a stronger focus on frontend development while maintaining solid backend expertise. You will work closely with the team to design, build, and improve applications and systems. Beyond implementing requirements, our client needs someone who can take ownership, work independently, challenge existing designs, and recommend better technical approaches.

The ideal candidate has strong frontend development skills, experience designing scalable systems, and the confidence to make technical decisions without constant supervision.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with ownership across both frontend and backend.
  • Strong TypeScript and React skills, including routing, server-state management (TanStack Query or similar), and complex forms.
  • A front-end-focused fullstack developer with solid backend experience in either Rust or Python.
  • Experience designing systems and making sound architectural decisions, applying software design principles and best practices.
  • The confidence to challenge existing designs, identify potential issues, and recommend better technical solutions rather than simply implementing instructions.
  • Experience designing APIs for frontend applications, including resource modelling, versioning, pagination, error contracts, and OpenAPI.
  • Strong relational data modelling, database migrations, and PostgreSQL experience.
  • Experience splitting up or migrating legacy systems incrementally without interrupting ongoing delivery.
  • Experience with authentication and authorisation, including JWTs, roles, and permissions.
  • Testing experience across the stack, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to work asynchronously, document decisions, and communicate technical reasoning clearly.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks from design through implementation without requiring constant direction.
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to question assumptions, spot mistakes, and contribute to technical discussions.

Backend Language Requirements

The current backend includes Python, with a gradual migration towards Rust.

  • Strong experience in Python or Rust is essential.
  • Candidates with substantial Python experience and a willingness to become productive in Rust are welcome.
  • Production Rust experience is an advantage but is not mandatory.
  • Experience migrating projects from Python to Rust would be particularly valuable.
  • Candidates with no meaningful experience in either Python or Rust who would need to learn both from scratch are not suitable.

Nice to Have

  • Production Rust web services using Axum, Tokio, SeaORM, or sqlx.
  • AWS serverless technologies, including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, and CDK.
  • Tauri or other desktop packaging of web applications.
  • IoT or time-series data experience, including MQTT, LoRaWAN, ChirpStack, and InfluxDB.
  • Schema-driven or contract-first development, including JSON Schema and OpenAPI code generation.
  • Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps tools such as ArgoCD.
  • Energy, utilities, or smart-metering domain knowledge.
  • Clerk or similar hosted identity providers.
  • Tailwind and shadcn/ui component systems.

What Success Looks Like

  • Building reliable internal applications with a strong focus on frontend quality and usability.
  • Making sound architectural decisions and applying appropriate design principles.
  • Taking ownership of tasks and progressing independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Proactively identifying problems, challenging design decisions, and proposing improvements.
  • Contributing to the gradual migration from Python to Rust where appropriate.
  • Delivering high-quality, well-tested software while maintaining clear documentation and communication
