If your best product ideas die in a backlog, this is where they get built.
You'll ship features that handle thousands of high-stakes patient interactions every day. Not dashboards nobody checks. Not internal tools nobody asked for. Real products, real patients, real clinical outcomes. If you want full ownership from sketch to production in a company where engineering decisions move the needle, this is the role.
An early-stage AI healthtech startup in New York is hiring a Product Engineer to design and build the next generation of AI-powered healthcare products. The company builds AI phone agents that sound human, reason under tight latency constraints, and navigate complex healthcare conversations in real time. Think claims status checks, benefit verifications, prior authorisations, patient scheduling, and balance reminders. All handled by AI. The goal: eliminate $200B in administrative waste so clinicians spend their time on patients, not paperwork.
The company is now expanding beyond voice into SMS and web. You'll take those products from ideation to production. Sketch the UI in Figma. Talk to customers about their pain points. Build the backend to handle it. Ship it. Track whether it works. Iterate.
What your week looks like:
You'll design and deliver features end-to-end across a FastAPI (Python) and PostgreSQL backend with a React (TypeScript) frontend. You'll manage distributed systems handling asynchronous workload orchestration at scale. You'll integrate with health data sources including EHRs and external APIs. You'll build patient-facing web and mobile experiences, implement monitoring and observability, and produce the technical documentation that keeps the team moving fast. You'll participate in sprint planning and code reviews. You'll collaborate directly with product and clinical stakeholders. And you'll mentor junior engineers as the team grows.
This isn't a feature factory. You'll contribute to roadmap planning and own the technical decisions behind what gets built and how.
What you'll bring:
What you'll get:
The tech stack: FastAPI (Python), PostgreSQL, React (TypeScript), distributed async systems, AWS/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes.
Who this is for:
You're the engineer who treats every product like it's yours. You've built things from zero and shipped them to thousands of users. You think about latency, reliability, and user experience in the same breath. You see this role as a step toward building your own company one day. And you're ready to operate at the pace an early-stage startup demands: thousands of daily patient interactions, high stakes, tight deadlines, real consequences.
