Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Service Engineer specializing in Thermo Mass Spectrometry instruments to support the Boston, MA area or Cambridge, NJ. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment while ensuring optimal system performance and excellent customer satisfaction.

Candidates must reside within 30 miles of Boston, MA to support timely on-site service response requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, upgrade, repair, and service mass spectrometry equipment.
  • Provide highly visible customer support by performing or supervising on-site activities on electrical and electronic equipment and systems, including installation, commissioning, operation, inspection, testing, calibration, adjustment, maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, service, and repair.
  • Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test, and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Take action to resolve problems with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and customers.
  • Provide training and guidance to customers/end users on the basic operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of their systems.
  • Complete service-related activities and documentation in compliance with established procedures.
  • Travel within the assigned territory (Boston, MA area) and occasionally outside the territory for on-site service activities.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of field service experience, specifically with Thermo mass spectrometry equipment, including training and hands-on experience with the latest Orbitrap MS product lines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with chromatography equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, work under pressure with tight deadlines, and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated integrity, strong work ethic, client focus, initiative, and multidisciplinary experience.
  • Experience supporting technical sales, managing inventory accurately, responding to customer calls in a timely manner, closing service tickets, maintaining schedules, and delivering reports on time.
  • Technical specialization in the repair, service, installation, upgrade, and maintenance of mass spectrometry systems; instrument qualification is an asset.
  • Proficiency with instrument software and the Microsoft Office suite.

Physical Demands and Work/Travel Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Work is primarily conducted on-site at various customer locations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, in accordance with applicable law.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary of $110,000, with potential to increase based on experience and qualifications. Final salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
