Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Specialist to join our team in Saskatchewan, focusing on major industrial projects within sectors such as mining, metals, and chemicals. The successful candidate will provide expert advisory and hands-on support throughout the commissioning lifecycle, from initial planning and strategy to final handover and post-commissioning support. You will be a key player in ensuring that complex industrial systems are started up safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and client standards. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in a core discipline (mechanical, electrical, I&C, or process), strong documentation skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advisory on commissioning strategy, including system breakdown, turnover sequencing, and readiness verification, while supporting the development of comprehensive Commissioning Plans.
- Develop, adapt, and supply commissioning documentation, including templates, Inspection and Test Records (ITRs), functional test sheets, and standard operating procedures (e.g., LOTO, energization).
- Actively participate in commissioning readiness reviews, punch list resolution, and field-based troubleshooting during system start-up and performance testing.
- Collaborate closely with the client’s commissioning teams, EPC organizations, contractors, and OEM vendors to ensure a safe, consistent, and timely system handover.
- Advise on post-commissioning transition activities, including the development of O&M manuals, training aids, spare parts strategies, and performance baselines, capturing lessons learned for future projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering commissioning services for major industrial facilities (e.g., mining, metals, chemicals).
- Expertise in at least one core discipline: mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & controls, process, or operations.
- Professional credentials such as P.Eng., P.L.(Eng.), C.E.T., A.Sc.T., or equivalent trade certification.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with demonstrated ability to produce high-quality procedures, test records, and reports.
- Commitment to the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and quality.
- Excellent problem-solving and advisory skills, with the ability to provide independent, practical recommendations.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Specific experience with large-scale potash, uranium, or oil & gas projects in Saskatchewan.
- Direct familiarity with commissioning frameworks such as CSA Z320.
- Experience working directly within an owner-led commissioning team or in a senior role within an EPC/EPCM organization.
