Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete hardware lifecycle, transforming initial prototypes into mature, commercially viable products.
  • Design and develop custom PCBs using Altium Designer, performing rigorous SPICE circuit simulations throughout the development phase.
  • Carry out hands-on hardware testing, board bring-up, fault finding, and design optimisation to mitigate technical risks early.
  • Spearhead product certification and compliance processes, ensuring designs meet IEC 61010, EMC, safety, and radio communications standards.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for external suppliers and prepare thorough engineering documentation, from risk assessments to test reports.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A relevant degree in electronics engineering or substantial equivalent industrial experience.
  • Proven expertise in custom PCB layout and EDA design tools (specifically Altium Designer) alongside simulation experience with SPICE.
  • Deep practical knowledge of 32-bit microcontrollers, connected IoT devices, and serial communication buses (including I2C, SPI, and UART).
  • Extensive experience with board bring-up, prototype testing, diagnostics, and root-cause fault finding.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical safety, EMC directives, and radio communication regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrable track record of leading technical projects, managing risk, and liaising directly with manufacturing partners and suppliers.

Nice-to-have

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or currently working towards chartered status.
  • Proven background collaborating closely across disciplines, particularly with firmware engineers and mechanical design teams.
