Interaction Designer (UI leaning), public sector digital services

Contract: Day-rate contract, Inside IR35
Duration: 6 months
Start: Must be available to start before the end of November 2026
Security clearance: Active SC clearance is mandatory. We are unable to obtain a new clearance in time to start this role.

The opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Interaction Designer with a strong UI focus and active SC clearance to join a multidisciplinary team working on a specialist digital service for a UK public sector organisation.

The service supports professionals operating in a complex, data-rich and safety-critical environment. The focus is on continuous improvement: making interactions clearer, workflows smoother and the interface more usable and accessible.

This is a hands-on role that leans towards UI. You'll shape how users move through complex tasks and bring those interactions to life in polished, high-fidelity interfaces, translating existing research, user feedback and product priorities into intuitive, accessible improvements. It is not a broad UX research or service design position.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing interaction flows and user journeys for complex, task-heavy workflows.
  • Creating high-fidelity designs, interactive prototypes and reusable components in Figma.
  • Improving the presentation of complex data, dashboards and operational workflows.
  • Defining interaction patterns, states and behaviours within established design systems.
  • Applying accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA) throughout your work.
  • Collaborating closely with developers, product managers and UX researchers.
  • Supporting usability testing and iterating designs based on feedback.

What we're looking for

  • Active SC security clearance (essential, no exceptions).
  • Availability to start before the end of November 2026 (essential).
  • Strong interaction design experience with a clear UI lean, backed by an excellent portfolio.
  • Advanced Figma skills, including design systems, components and prototyping.
  • Experience designing complex, data-rich interfaces and workflows.
  • Strong understanding of visual design, usability and accessibility.
  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

  • UK government or public sector digital delivery experience.
  • Familiarity with GDS standards and the GOV.UK Design System.
  • Experience with mapping, data visualisation or operational systems.

Interested?

If you're an experienced, UI-leaning Interaction Designer with active SC clearance and available to start before the end of November, we'd love to hear from you.

Please send your CV, portfolio, availability and confirmation of your active SC clearance. Applications without active SC clearance will not be progressed.
