Lead UX Designer

RMG

Barcelona · Full-time · Contract · Hybrid · €500/day

RMG is recruiting a Lead UX Designer for an established client. This is a full-time contract of around nine months, working hybrid from Barcelona.

Duration: ASAP until June 2027 (potential for extension).
Rate: €500/day.
Location: Barcelona (hybrid)

The role

Our client's global payroll product looks like one joined-up service from the outside. Underneath, it runs on many different applications. Getting it set up for each new customer ("implementation") is spread across lots of tools, and much of it is still done manually.

The client wants a clear vision for how implementation should work in the future, designed without past limitations. That's where you come in. You'll lead the design of that vision end-to-end, then product and engineering teams will spend the following year or so making it real.

You won't design every screen. You'll map the big picture, think through the whole solution, and then go deep on individual designs where they matter most.

What you'll do

  • Lead the experience vision for implementation across a large, complex domain.
  • Map end-to-end journeys for customers and internal teams, and turn them into a clear picture of the future.
  • Create high-fidelity designs and prototypes in Figma for the key parts of the journey.
  • Work alongside the research lead and present the work together to senior leaders.
  • Bring together a wide group of stakeholders: product, technology and the business teams who do implementation today.
  • Collaborate with team members based in Spain, the UK and India.

What you'll need

  • Experience leading UX strategy and mapping large, end-to-end experiences, ideally in complex enterprise or back-office products.
  • Strong visual and UI skills in Figma, as comfortable with polished screens as with big-picture maps.
  • Confidence presenting to senior stakeholders and winning support for your ideas.
  • A genuine enjoyment of complex problems and messy workflows.
  • To be based in or near Barcelona, able to work in the office regularly, with the right to work in Spain (visa sponsorship is not available).
  • To be registered as autónomo (self-employed) in Spain, as this is a contract role.

Nice to have

  • A background in service design, such as service blueprints or business process mapping
  • Experience designing for AI, machine learning or automation

Why this role

This is a rare chance to shape the future of a core global payroll platform from the ground up. You'll have real ownership, a meaningful problem to solve, and the backing of a client that wants to get it right.
