Role Overview and Purpose
The Business Development Director is a pivotal leadership position responsible for defining and executing our long-term growth strategy. Your primary purpose is to identify and capitalise on new market opportunities, foster high-level strategic partnerships, and lead a high-performing business development team to exceed revenue targets.
This role requires a blend of strategic foresight, commercial acumen, and exceptional relationship-management skills. You will act as a key brand ambassador, ensuring our value proposition is effectively communicated to sophisticated stakeholders and that our organisation remains at the forefront of market trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the organisation’s long-term objectives and financial goals.
- Market Expansion: Identify, evaluate, and penetrate new market segments and geographic territories to diversify revenue streams.
- Partnership Management: Cultivate and maintain senior-level relationships with key clients, partners, and industry influencers to secure long-term commercial value.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and inspire the business development team, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
- Revenue Growth: Oversee the end-to-end sales cycle for major accounts, ensuring a robust pipeline of high-quality opportunities and consistent delivery against targets.
- Competitive Analysis: Continuously analyse market dynamics, competitor behaviour, and emerging trends to ensure the organisation maintains a competitive edge.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Marketing, Product, and Operations departments to ensure a cohesive approach to market entry and client satisfaction.
- Reporting and Forecasting: Provide regular, detailed reports to the Board regarding commercial performance, market forecasts, and strategic initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven Track Record: Extensive experience in a senior business development or commercial leadership role, with a demonstrable history of achieving significant revenue growth within relevant FS industries.
- Strategic Mindset: The ability to think long-term, recognise emerging patterns, and translate complex market data into actionable business plans.
- Leadership Excellence: Proven experience in managing and developing high-calibre teams, with a focus on coaching and performance optimisation.
- Exceptional Communication: Outstanding negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at the C-suite level.
- Analytical Rigour: Strong financial literacy and the ability to analyse complex data sets to inform decision-making.
- Adaptability: A flexible approach to problem-solving and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving commercial environment.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is required; an MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is highly desirable.
