Role Overview
Our client, a leading specialty P&C reinsurer based in Hamilton, Bermuda, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Pricing. This senior leadership role is pivotal to the company's success, responsible for the actuarial evaluation and communication of risk and return across a diverse portfolio of trading opportunities. Reporting to the Chief Actuary, you will lead and develop the Bermuda pricing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, expertise, and innovation. This is a key strategic position that will influence deal structuring, enhance pricing methodologies, and drive the analytical capabilities of the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and mentor the Bermuda actuarial pricing team, coordinating resource planning to ensure exceptional service levels and collaboration with underwriters, particularly during peak seasons.
- Drive the enhancement of individual trading opportunities by providing expert recommendations on deal structuring, evaluating price adequacy, and comparing risk/return characteristics against market benchmarks.
- Oversee and contribute to actuarial projects aimed at improving pricing models, methodologies, and tools, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of underwriters and other key stakeholders.
- Champion the integration of data science and advanced analytics to improve the quality and efficiency of pricing processes, while ensuring all analysis is captured effectively for downstream use in capital models and other company projects.
- Effectively communicate complex actuarial concepts, observations, and strategic recommendations to a wide range of audiences, including senior leadership, underwriting teams, and other non-actuarial functions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- FCAS, FIA, or equivalent actuarial designation.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the Property & Casualty (P&C) reinsurance industry.
- Demonstrated experience pricing a wide variety of complex reinsurance treaties, including multiple lines of business, structures, and retrospective opportunities.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage a team and prioritize a demanding workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong technical proficiency in Excel/VBA and SQL for data manipulation and analysis of large datasets.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with modern data science tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R).
- Familiarity with maintaining and developing capital models relevant for pricing.
- Experience coordinating with pricing teams across multiple international offices.
