Our client, an innovative insurance-tech group, is establishing a new life reinsurance company in Bermuda. We are seeking a founding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead this venture from its inception. This is a hands-on, entrepreneurial role where you will be solely responsible for building the company from the ground up, securing the necessary regulatory licenses, and driving the business to a successful commercial launch. This unique position requires a blend of deep regulatory expertise, strategic vision, and operational execution skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the entire Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) license application process, serving as the primary point of contact and responsible officer to secure a full license for Long-Term business.
- Architect the company's operational and corporate infrastructure, including establishing the legal entity, designing the governance framework, building the founding team (Actuarial, Underwriting, Finance, etc.), and implementing core systems.
- Develop and execute the company's long-term strategic vision, product strategy, and market positioning, with a focus on High-Net-Worth life insurance and related cross-border business.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the company's operations, while also acting as the external face of the company to investors, reinsurance partners, and key distribution channels.
- Establish and cultivate a robust, high-performance culture rooted in strong risk management, compliance, and ethical principles, in line with Bermuda's stringent regulatory standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the life (re)insurance industry.
- A proven, verifiable track record of successfully leading the application for and obtaining a full insurance license from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) for a new or growing entity.
- Fluency (verbal and written) in both Mandarin Chinese and English is mandatory to effectively liaise with the parent company and Bermuda-based stakeholders.
- Deep, authoritative understanding of Bermuda's insurance regulatory framework, including the Supervisory Principles (SPMs), and an established professional network within the BMA.
- Experience as a founder, founding CEO, or a similar C-level builder role (e.g., COO, CFO) with P&L responsibility, demonstrating the ability to build a company or significant business unit from the ground up.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- An advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or a relevant professional designation (e.g., FIA, ASA, CFA).
- Direct experience in the High-Net-Worth (HNW) life insurance market, annuities, or cross-border business structures.
- Experience in an 'insurtech' or technology-driven insurance environment.
