Role Overview
A specialist ASD and complex needs school in Liverpool is seeking an experienced and visionary Head of School to lead the institution through an exciting period of growth and transition. The school currently supports 80 pupils aged 3–19, ranging from non-verbal learners using alternative communication methods to students working towards GCSEs. This is a critical leadership role as the school expands its sixth form provision and navigates a phase transition into a more secondary-focused model.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction during a phase of growth, ensuring high standards of education and care across the 3–19 age range.
- Manage and develop a young, dedicated team of staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and high performance in behavior management and complex needs support.
- Lead the school through upcoming inspections, including an expected Ofsted visit later this year, ensuring all statutory requirements and quality standards are met.
- Oversee the successful integration and expansion of the new sixth form provision and the transition towards an increased secondary phase focus.
- Maintain strong relationships with parents, carers, and external stakeholders to support the diverse needs of the pupil cohort.
Requirements
- Proven experience in senior leadership within a specialist ASD and complex needs setting.
- Strong people management skills with the ability to inspire and lead a committed staff team.
- Demonstrable experience in managing school transitions or organizational change.
- Deep understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding within a specialist environment.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with a varied cohort from non-verbal pupils to GCSE students.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in an all-through (3–19) school setting.
- National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). The school is willing to support the successful candidate in obtaining this if not already held.
