Senior Staff Accountant Location: Toronto Work: Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join a dynamic public accounting firm. In this pivotal role, you will oversee and manage the full engagement process for a diverse client portfolio. The ideal candidate will lead audit and review engagements, prepare compilations, and handle both personal and corporate tax returns, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute audit and review engagements for clients' financial statements, ensuring strict adherence to ASPE and other relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Prepare and review compilation (Notice to Reader) engagements, as well as personal (T1) and corporate (T2) tax returns.
  • Mentor and guide junior accounting staff, providing constructive feedback and fostering their professional development.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a key point of contact and identifying opportunities to provide value-added services.
  • Collaborate with engagement teams to plan, set objectives, and establish timelines, while also identifying and implementing process improvements and new technologies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience within a public accounting firm.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
  • Proven experience leading audit and review engagements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • CPA designation (or actively working towards it).
  • Proficiency with audit software (e.g., CaseWare, Taxprep) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in mentoring or supervising junior team members.
