Stepping onto a busy UK construction site and turning complex bulk earthworks plans into a safe, efficient, and precise operational reality takes a steady hand and real field expertise. At Alfa AI, we are managing the search for an experienced Earthworks Supervisor to lead high-value site preparation, groundworks, and heavy plant operations across key projects in the UK. In this pivotal full-time, on-site role, you will be the driving force behind daily ground operations—managing site teams, coordinating heavy machinery, and maintaining strict safety and quality standards from the first dig to the final formation level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Daily Site Operations: Lead on-site crews, plant operators, and subcontractors to ensure earth-moving, cut-and-fill, and bulk excavation activities meet exact engineering specifications and deadlines.
  • Uphold Safety & Compliance: Enforce rigorous Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards, conducting daily toolbox talks, RAMS reviews, and site inductions to maintain an uncompromising safety culture.
  • Coordinate Heavy Plant & Logistics: Manage the efficient movement, scheduling, and optimal utilization of heavy earthmoving machinery, haulage vehicles, and specialized site equipment.
  • Monitor Technical Accuracy: Inspect ground levels, soil stabilization processes, and drainage setups alongside site engineers to ensure total compliance with project blueprints and geotechnical requirements.
  • Drive Reporting & Communication: Maintain accurate daily shift logs, track material volumes and site progress, and serve as the primary link between site operatives and senior project managers.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven Supervisory Background: Demonstrated experience working as an Earthworks Supervisor, Groundworks Foreman, or Site Agent on major civil engineering, infrastructure, or commercial projects in the UK.
  • Industry Certifications: Valid CSCS Gold/Black Supervisor card, along with recognized safety qualifications such as SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • Geotechnical & Technical Literacy: Deep practical knowledge of soil types, compaction testing, bulk earthworks calculations, cut-and-fill balance, and site drainage systems.
  • Plant & Safety Expertise: Relevant CPCS or NPORS certifications (or demonstrated expert knowledge) covering heavy plant operations, excavator usage, and GPS-guided machine control systems.
  • Strong Leadership: Clear, confident communication skills with a proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary site teams and resolving daily site bottlenecks effectively.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience utilizing modern GPS and 3D machine guidance technology (e.g., Trimble, Topcon) for high-precision grading.
  • Valid First Aid at Work certification and environmental management training (e.g., SEATS).
  • Full, clean UK driving licence to facilitate travel across active site locations.
