If you know how to build robust Web Components that perform flawlessly under the scrutiny of screen readers and complex DOM boundaries, your expertise belongs here.
RMG is seeking a Senior Accessibility Engineer for a long-term contract running through June 2027. Working remotely from Barcelona, you will join the team building and hardening the web component library of a major global enterprise. You will bridge deep frontend engineering with true assistive technology usability, auditing existing components, implementing code-level remediations, and ensuring every reusable component works seamlessly for disabled users.
Key responsibilities
- Remediate accessibility sweep findings directly in the component codebase, driving issues through TypeScript implementation, testing and release.
- Audit components not yet reviewed using automated, semi-automated and manual testing against WCAG and EN 301 549.
- Perform manual assistive technology evaluations, including keyboard navigation, screen reader testing, screen magnification and contrast checks.
- Write clear component guidelines and accessibility documentation for development teams and AI-assisted workflows.
- Bring accessibility validation into the team's agentic AI tooling, helping create skills and standards for automated component composition.
- Work in a Scrum cadence, joining weekly sweep sessions and sizing remediation work with precise technical scoping.
Required skills and experience
- Production engineering experience with TypeScript, Node.js and core Web Components (Custom Elements, Shadow DOM accessibility and ARIA).
- In-depth knowledge of WCAG and EN 301 549, grounded in real-world usability rather than checkbox compliance.
- Hands-on testing with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver), keyboard-only flows and tools such as Deque axe DevTools.
- Background supporting enterprise design systems and modular UI component libraries.
- Familiarity with CI/CD build and deployment pipelines.
- Clear written communication, with a track record of actionable issue tickets, documentation and accurate estimates.
- Availability to overlap with US colleagues until around 2pm ET (8pm CET) Tuesday to Thursday; Mondays and Fridays are flexible.
Nice-to-have
- Switch access testing or other alternative input device testing.
- Mobile accessibility testing across iOS VoiceOver and Android TalkBack.
- IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification.
- Familiarity with agentic workflows and tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
- Exposure to React.
