Role Overview
An established and rapidly growing real estate investment and management group is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to oversee the financial reporting and accounting operations for a portfolio of multifamily assets. You will manage full-cycle accounting, take ownership of the monthly close, and ensure compliance with GAAP, playing a key role in supporting audits, budgeting, and cash management.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full-cycle property accounting, including managing the monthly close process, journal entries, accruals, and bank reconciliations for a portfolio of 7-8 multifamily properties.
- Prepare and review monthly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and ownership packages, ensuring accuracy and timely distribution.
- Partner with property managers to ensure accuracy in rent rolls and expense coding, and support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Monitor property cash flow, handle debt payments, initiate capital calls, track fund distributions, and support external audits and tax preparation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4-6 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years specifically in real estate accounting.
- Strong command of GAAP as it applies to real estate.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to manage large datasets.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience in multifamily property management accounting.
- Proficiency in Yardi, MRI, or RealPage software.
- Experience with lease accounting and property-level budgeting.
