Daily Responsibilities:

As a Business System Analyst within the bank's Group Risk Management (GRM) team, you will play an important role at the intersection of data analysis, system development, and regulatory compliance. This is an intermediate-level position designed for a technically oriented individual who is eager to grow within a dynamic financial services environment. Approximately 70% of this role is technical in nature, focusing on Python/SQL-based data work, database development, and OSFI-mandated log analysis and monitoring. The remaining 30% involves supporting vendor relationships and coordinating with external data providers to ensure operational continuity.

  • Write and maintain Python scripts and SQL queries to support day-to-day data analysis, reporting, and ad hoc investigation requests.
  • Assist in transforming, cleaning, and validating data sourced from Excel files and other upstream systems.
  • Collaborate with senior team members to develop and document reusable data pipelines and analytical workflows.
  • Database Development & Excel Migration
  • Support the migration of existing Excel-based datasets and processes into a structured relational database environment.
  • Assist in designing and maintaining database tables, schemas, and data dictionaries to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Perform data quality checks and reconciliations to validate migrated data against source files.
  • OSFI Regulatory Log Analysis & Monitoring
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an enterprise-level monitoring process for credit bureau activity logs in compliance with OSFI requirements.
  • Analyze user activity logs received from credit bureau providers, including login/logout events, file uploads and downloads, and IP address tracking.
  • Identify anomalies, flag potential compliance concerns, and escalate findings to senior risk and compliance stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the preparation of regular monitoring reports and support audit and regulatory review activities as required.
  • Vendor Coordination & Support
  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for external data providers, managing routine inquiries and coordinating issue resolution.
  • Track vendor SLA performance and flag deviations to senior team members for escalation.
  • Support access review and member code maintenance activities for external vendor systems, ensuring adherence to change management standards.
  • Documentation & Process Support
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for analytical processes, database structures, log monitoring procedures, and vendor workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives.

  • Python & SQL Proficiency: Hands-on experience writing Python scripts and SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis at a data analyst level.
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to interpret large datasets, identify patterns, and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to data validation, log review, and documentation to support regulatory accuracy and compliance.
  • Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with internal teams and external vendors effectively.
  • Microsoft Excel: Solid working knowledge of Excel for data review, reconciliation, and transition planning.

Nice-to-have Skills/Experience and/or Education, certifications, qualifications, designations:

  • Visualization Tools: Familiarity with Power BI or Tableau for building dashboards and reporting outputs.
  • Project & Collaboration Tools: Experience with Jira and/or Confluence for task tracking, documentation, and team collaboration.
  • SharePoint: Comfort using SharePoint to manage and share documentation within a team environment.
  • Financial Services or Regulatory Awareness: Basic understanding of OSFI guidelines or compliance frameworks in a financial services context is an asset.
  • Vendor Management Exposure: Prior experience supporting external vendor relationships or coordinating with third-party data providers.
