Title: Technical Writer (MUST hold active SC Clearance)

Location: Remote UK

Rate: £465 per day

Make critical technical documentation genuinely usable

We are looking for a contract Technical Writer to reshape the documentation for a message switching service: a platform that provides critical support for the exchange and dissemination of meteorological data across internal systems. The current documentation was written by scientists for scientists. Your job is to make it clear, simple and usable for everyone who relies on the service.

What you will do

• Run an initial discovery phase, reviewing the existing documentation end to end
• Speak with stakeholders and users to understand how they use the service and where the documentation lets them down
• Define the approach, structure and standards for the new documentation
• Rewrite and produce the new documentation in plain, accessible language
• Work closely with technical and scientific subject matter experts to keep content accurate while simplifying it
• Set the documentation up so it is easy to maintain after your engagement

What you will bring

• Proven experience as a technical writer producing user and system documentation
• Active SC Clearance
• Experience auditing existing documentation and planning a rewrite
• Confidence engaging stakeholders and gathering user needs
• A talent for turning complex technical or scientific material into clear, plain English

Nice to have

• Experience documenting data exchange, messaging or integration platforms
• Experience working in security-cleared or public sector environments
• A content design background
