Role Overview
The Quality Engineer is a hands-on role focused on leading and supporting the growth and improvement of our Quality Management System (QMS). You will collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales to refine systems, stabilize processes, and enhance overall quality performance. Your primary goal will be to positively impact First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduce the Cost of Quality (CoQ) through the structured, disciplined use of Lean Management Systems and Standard Work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes, including trend identification, investigation, and the development and deployment of sustainable corrective actions using tools like 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone diagrams.
- Drive the development, implementation, and maintenance of key QMS documentation, including Control Plans, FMEAs, Work Instructions, and Process Flow diagrams, ensuring robust document control.
- Partner with Operations to lead data collection, analysis, and improvement projects, acting as a Subject Matter Expert on Layered Process Audits (LPA) and First Article Inspections (FAI) to ensure process and product conformance.
- Champion the QMS by supporting training initiatives for new hires and existing staff, and by using change management techniques to drive operator engagement during process updates.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a quality role within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience with QMS documentation and concepts (Work Instructions, SOPs, LPA, FAI, Control Plans, FMEA).
- Demonstrated expertise in quantitative/qualitative analysis and structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, CAR, 5 Why, Fishbone).
- Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to work independently and negotiate effectively.
- Flexibility to support a 3-shift operation and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related technical field, or an Associate's Degree with an additional 4 years of practical experience.
- Six Sigma Green Belt (GB) certification or the ability to become certified within eighteen months.
- Experience in process or project management.
- Direct experience dealing with customers regarding quality issues.
