Retail Assistant (Supermarket)

We are currently looking for a proactive and customer-focused Retail Assistant to join our on-site team in the United Kingdom on a full-time, permanent basis.
In this frontline role, you will be an essential part of daily store life. You will balance friendly, efficient service at the tills with hands-on floor presentation, ensuring that our products are easily accessible, clearly presented, and ready for our customers throughout the day. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome shoppers warmly and provide helpful assistance, answering product queries and directing customers across the store.
- Operate checkout tills and POS systems accurately, handling barcode scanning, card processing, and cash transactions.
- Replenish stock on the sales floor, maintaining tidy shelves and executing product rotation using FIFO principles.
- Monitor product presentation by facing up aisles and regularly checking date codes to ensure fresh, high-quality stock.
- Support overall store standards by maintaining clean checkout zones, tidying aisles, and addressing routine shop floor needs.
Required Skills & Experience
- Prior experience or strong confidence in frontline retail customer service, delivering friendly and attentive communication.
- Practical competence in till operations, cash handling, barcode scanning, and modern POS checkout systems.
- Proven ability in shelf stacking, merchandising, product rotation, and date code checking.
- Clear communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach to daily tasks.
- Comfort working on-site in a dynamic retail setting that involves being on your feet and handling routine physical tasks.
Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with inventory checks, price ticketing, and basic waste reduction processes.
- Experience unloading deliveries and organizing stock within a warehouse storage area.
- Understanding of store health, safety, and hygiene standards, including food safety guidelines, spill management, and safe manual handling.
