UI Designer – Public Sector Digital Services

Duration: 6 months
Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum (pro rata), or £425/day Inside IR35
Contract: Fixed-term preferred; Inside IR35 considered
Start: Must be available to start before the end of November 2026
Security Clearance: Active SC clearance essential

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced UI Designer with active SC clearance to join a multidisciplinary team working on a specialist digital service for a UK public sector organisation.

The service supports professionals operating in a complex, data-rich and safety-critical environment. The focus is on continuous improvement, enhancing usability, accessibility and the overall user interface.

This is a hands-on, UI-focused role, rather than a broader UX research or service design position. You'll translate existing research, user feedback and product priorities into intuitive, accessible and effective interface improvements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing and refining user interfaces for a complex public sector digital service.
  • Creating high-fidelity designs, interactive prototypes and reusable components in Figma.
  • Improving the presentation of complex data, dashboards and user workflows.
  • Applying accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA) and established design systems.
  • Collaborating with developers, product managers and UX researchers.
  • Supporting usability testing and iterating designs based on feedback.

What We're Looking For

  • Active SC security clearance (essential).
  • Availability to start before the end of November 2026 (essential).
  • Strong UI design experience, with an excellent portfolio.
  • Advanced Figma skills, including design systems and prototyping.
  • Experience designing complex, data-rich interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of visual design, usability and accessibility.
  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable:

  • UK government or public sector digital delivery experience.
  • Familiarity with GDS standards and the GOV.UK Design System.
  • Experience with mapping, data visualisation or operational systems.

Interested?

If you're an experienced, SC-cleared UI Designer available to start before the end of November, we'd love to hear from you.

Please send your CV, portfolio, availability and confirmation of active SC clearance.
